A Tuscaloosa journalist reported, "Coach Bryant lined up 5 footballs on one goal line and the entire team on the other. He told his players to sprint to the goal line and the mission was to bring back a football. Every man without a football has to run laps for one hour. Coach Bryant blew his whistle and off they ran. Within three minutes one player crossed the line with a football and Leroy Jordan crossed the line with four! Coach Bryant quoted, "that Jordan kid is the meanest SOB I've ever coached". Then Leroy, by choice, ran laps with the rest of the team!
