Hogs hope to knock off Tide
History doesn't seem to rate much with the Razorbacks these days. Too many, too new throughout the football staff and athletic department to ponder a past they weren't here to care about. Nevertheless, history rides on Arkansas' side today as the Razorbacks (2-0) and Alabama Crimson Tide (3-0) meet in their 11:30 a.m., Raycom-televised, SEC opener at Frank Broyles Field at Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The past two annual Arkansas-Alabama SEC West games the unranked home team has rankled the ranked visitor.
Life After Darren McFadden so far so good for Arkansas' Smith
Michael Smith has a serious responsibility. The Arkansas tailback doesn't pretend to be Heisman Trophy runner-up Darren McFadden, who left town a year early for the NFL Draft. Good thing, considering he is seven inches shorter and 42 pounds lighter. "I definitely don't want fans to feel like there was a drop-off," said Smith, the 5-foot-7, 173-pound junior who earned his first start in week 2.

The Razorbacks will have their hands full with the defensive front of the Crimson Tide, anchored by 6-foot-5, 365-pound nose guard Terrence Cody, affectionately known as "Mount Cody." Cody has slimmed down after playing at 420 pounds last season for Gulf Coast (Miss.) Community College. He will be matched up against 6-4, 305-pound Jonathan Luigs, winner of last year's Rimington Award as the nation's top center.
