Tide Tidbits - November 30, 2008

ESPN: Alabama shuts out Auburn for biggest Iron Bowl win in 46 years
Nick Saban has Alabama on top again. The national rankings and SEC West? That’s old news. Already No. 1 in the nation, Alabama emphatically reclaimed the premier spot in the state by overwhelming bitter rival Auburn 36-0 on Saturday to end a six-year Iron Bowl losing streak and fashion the biggest margin in the series in 46 years.

NY Post: TIDE ROLLS TO FIRST WIN OVER AUBURN SINCE 2001
After six painstakingly long years and six straight soul-shattering losses to hated Auburn, Alabama's offensive linemen, an ironclad, physically punishing band of brothers that averages 6-foot-5, 307 pounds, finally had its chance to get low and deliver a blow that would forge their names in Iron Bowl lore.

Difference between Tide, Tigers easy to see
It’s often the little things which make the difference in a championship contender and, well, a 5-7 team. Alabama does the little things right. Auburn never seemed to do much of anything right this season. Nothing changed Saturday — absolutely nothing.

’Bama, Gators set up semifinal
At least one spot in the BCS national championship game is reserved for the Southeastern Conference champion. A Big 12 South team is probably first in line for the other spot — but which one? No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Florida cruised into their league title showdown next week with resounding victories against fierce rivals Saturday. Coach Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide snapped a six-game losing streak against Auburn with a 36-0 victory in the Iron Bowl. “We don’t have to hear about it anymore. We beat them good. We left no doubt. It’s a good way to finish them off,” Alabama quarterback John Parker Wilson said.

Florida Gators playmaker Percy Harvin's ankle sprain puts his status for SEC title game in doubt
Florida's 30-point victory over rival Florida State may have cost the Gators a lot more than they wanted to pay: the potential loss of star WR/RB Percy Harvin, and sophomore DT Brandon Antwine. Harvin, who leads the SEC in scoring touchdowns and overall scoring, sprained his right ankle with 6:44 left in the second quarter, and his status for this week's SEC championship game against Alabama is unknown.

Crimson Tide adds commitment on Iron Bowl day
In addition to the Iron Bowl victory, Alabama netted its 18th commitment of the expected 2009 signing class today. Junior college offensive tackle James Carpenter of Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College called Nick Saban to commit moments after the Auburn game. Carpenter, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound prospect, makes six offensive line pledges to the Crimson Tide's class.
