Tide Tidbits - December 15, 2008

Risky business at Auburn
That's not to say Auburn made a bad hire for its football coach, just a surprising one. But his will be a short tenure unless Chizik can duplicate Tuberville's success quickly. The SEC has no four- or five-year plans; instead, there are two- and three-year plans. And, frankly, if there's another Auburn coaching search in three years, there's a good chance Jacobs won't be in charge: His job security is tied to Chizik's won-loss record.

The Guilbeau Poll
2. ALABAMA (12-1, 8-0) - Less than two years ago, Nick Saban was hired as Alabama's coach and a member of LSU's Tiger Athletic Foundation said he would have a tough time winning at Alabama. Other fans and the fans in the LSU media said similar things because "LSU made Saban a winner," not the other way around. Still trying to figure that one out, and, meanwhile, he's way ahead of schedule, and he's not going anywhere. Last Week: No. 1.

Recruiting: Goin' Mobile
Alabama linebacker Tana Patrick still denies a leader, but mentioned Alabama, Auburn, Michigan, Miami, Florida State and LSU as his six favorites, among 20 offers. "I haven't narrowed it down yet," Patrick said. "I'm still pretty open and these are the ones that are recruiting me the most. If I have time I'll take as many trips as I can. Hopefully, I'll set up a few trips this week for January." On Alabama, "I really like how incredible they did this year," he said. "Coach Nick Saban is real good and got them through the regular season undefeated. That's real impressive."

Alabama sending four players to Senior Bowl
Quarterback John Parker Wilson, tight end Travis McCall, center Antoine Caldwell and safety Rashad Johnson have accepted invitations to represent the University of Alabama at the next month's Senior Bowl, event officials in Mobile announced today. All four will represent the South squad.
